Character Name: Vex'ahlia

Canon History: Here is her wiki page. I have a link to episode summaries but it's a lot and not even all of them... haha... but here

Canon Personality:
Upon first inspection Vex'ahlia appears to be a confident and intelligent woman, not to mention charming. She tends to be one of the more vocal members of the group, happy to chat with whoever approaches them or perhaps flirt with whoever approaches them. Everything she does tends to exude self-confidence, from walking into a room to taking down enemies before her. She is the sort of woman one might find it hard to say no to, with her velvety words and signature wink, Vex could likely bluff her way across the entire continent of Tal'dorei if she wanted. However, it is important to note that Vex'ahlia is a good person at heart and a bit of a jokester, a trait she shares with her brother Vax'ildan, with something of a mischievous streak. Something desperately needed when you spent your days running across the land fighting ancient horrors or dragons threatening to take over the world. That isn't to say she doesn't know when to be serious, even amongst the odd, possibly inappropriate, joke or two Vex'ahlia can be very serious, when the situation calls for it.

In fact, between the twins she is considered the more pragmatic of them, the one more prepared (or as prepared as anyone in Vox Machina truly is). Perhaps this is why the party chose her to be their treasurer, or perhaps she gave herself the position due to her keen interest in coin. An interest that some likely assume to be greed, on her part, and while they are not wholly wrong it isn't the whole story. Vex'ahlia simply understands the stability and security that gold can award them, having spent many of her younger years living with very little after running away from Syngorn. Years of stealing, budgeting what scrapes they managed to gain, in order to ensure that they at least had some food to each or a roof to protect them as they slept left Vex'ahlia with a keen mind for finances. A mind that her chosen family benefited greatly when Vox Machina was formed, even if sometimes they complain about how stringently she manages their funds. She is also fantastic at haggling, which makes her great to take on shopping adventures.

Yet despite the confident and flirtatious exterior she likes to put forward, Vex'ahlia struggles greatly with her sense of self-worth. Growing up a half-elf wasn't easy, and once the twins were brought to Syngorn it only got worse. Vex'ahlia spent years judged and scorned for her half-elven blood, no one within the city ever showed her or her brother a dredge of kindness and they tried so very hard to prove themselves. This was coupled with Vex'ahlia's inability to earn her father's favor, regardless of her many many efforts, she began to believe that she was simply never good enough. It left a hurt and a fear that runs deep within her, that no matter how hard she tried she would be never good enough for anyone outside of her brother.

Of course, she is loathed to let anyone see such hurts, burying them deep down beneath many layers of masks and walls to protect herself. Unfortunately, this also leads to a mindset that she needs the approval of others to confirm her own self-worth, which is why she tries so hard to look as though she comes from something more, something higher than what she does. It is why some might think her vain and obsessed with wealth. However that mindset has started to change little by little. Ever since joining up with the others of Vox Machina, she began to realize that there are people out there that can, and will, care for her despite her flaws. Of course, Percival's surprise gift helped this along, granting her the title of Baroness of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt in response to her father's indifference during their visit to Syngorn. Deeply touched by the gesture, not only because she was honored but because he gave her the chance to be a part of something so deeply important to him. This gift also served to further foster the budding feelings that had been developing between the two of them, feelings that would not be acted on until later in their adventures after Vex'ahlia watched Percy die in front of her.

Naturally, her insecurities stopped her from ever allowing herself to believe that anything could come of them, yet it was her heartfelt confession that played a major part in bringing him back to life. When Percy returned those feelings, along with the ever-faithful presence of Vox Machina as a whole, Vex'ahlia was able to let a little more of her true self slip through the multitude of barriers she set around herself. Knowing someone as flawed as she is, someone who saw her for herself, reached out with love and support when she needed it the most.

But the Lord of Whitestone isn't the only person she holds so very close. Even a blind man would be able to see how close Vex'ahlia and her twin brother, Vax'lidan, truly are. True to any siblings they often bicker and tease one another, but possess a bond that is stronger than steel forged by years of survival and reliance on one another. It is a very insular and codependent relationship, having never been separated and relying on only each other first and foremost. This has been changing as they travel with Vox Machina, encompassing the group they have chosen as family. Though they still loathe being separated, they now are able to take comfort in the people they have surrounded themselves with, and Vex'ahlia in the love she never thought she'd ever find.

And she cares very deeply for them all, no matter how many times they might drive her made with inane things or exorbitant spending. They are her family and she will do anything for them in their time of need. By that very same tone, Vex'ahlia does her best to extend her hand to any in need. She is a good person, empathetic to the plight of others and will go out of her way to aid them. However, like many others, she does struggle with whether or not what she does is right or wrong, sometimes questioning her decisions when the worst comes to happen. Such as when her insistence of going into the Feywild to retrieve a Vestige led her friends into danger, into the hands of a powerful corrupted Archfey who accused her of leading her friend straight to their doom.

Vex'ahlia is by no means perfect, but she will try to do what she believes is the right thing and leave this world a little better than she found it.

AU Name: n/a (used to go by Vanessa but threw that name away when she awoke to her abilities.)
AU Age: 26
AU Birthday: May 28

AU History:
— Vex'ahlia (originally born Vanessa) and her twin brother Vax'ildan (originally born Vincent) were the results of an illicit affair between their mother and a rather powerful high society man. For the majority of their young childhood they lived happily with their mother, making the best with what they had regardless of the circumstances. That was until their mother fell sick with a mysterious illness and they were forced to live with their father while their mother sought treatment. To say the time with their father wasn't pleasant would be putting things lightly, it was frankly horrible and they were constantly judged for being the children of an affair.

— They spent almost a year with their father before the twins finally had enough, running away in the dead of night in order to find their mother and go back to the way things were before she fell ill. It took four long days before the twins were able to finally make their way home, scaring the hell out of their mother when they did. While she was overjoyed to see them she was terribly confused to see them back so soon. She was still quite ill and in no position to care for her children, but neither of them cared all they wanted was to be with her.

— It was that fateful night that things took a turn for the worst. While the twins and their mother slept something attacked their home and threw everything into chaos. Vex'ahlia woke up to the sound of a roaring fire and her twin brother's desperate screams to wake her up. They sprinted to their mother's bedroom, however flames had all but consumed the home and it was all they could do to flee the building before they were caught up in it themselves. Standing outside their burning home Vex'ahlia all but went into shock and was unable to react when the massive creature that attacked their home came for them both. It was only her brother who reacted, shoving Vex'ahlia aside as the beast descended and yelling for her to run. It was that moment that something stirred within her, shadows coiling around her until she was all but consumed. She blacked out after that moment, only to awaken somewhere else entirely the next day dazed and confused. Believing both her twin brother and her mother to be dead, Vex'ahlia dedicated her life to trying to figure out what happened that night, what killed her brother and mother, and destroy whatever it was in revenge.

— Vex'ahlia's teenage years were spent in the darkest parts of Kaisou, gathering whatever information she could and sharpening her skills to get her revenge. She discovered that she was a natural with a bow and had a talent for swindling people with her good looks and high charisma. It was the latter that eventually led her into the sights of a certain De Rolo who she grew incredibly fond of, he was a light in her otherwise dark existence. Meeting Percy triggered something in her memory, a dream she would have again and again of a group of people sat around a table drinking and laughing. In that dream she saw her brother, she saw Percy, and though she couldn't make out what they were talking out she could make out a single word: Vex'ahlia. Only after meeting Percy in this life did she throw away the name Vanessa and instead take on the name Vex'ahlia.

— Things were starting to look up, Vex had found a spark of light in the dreary existence she had been living, and she felt as though she has found herself again. However that all came crashing down the day she discovered that Percival, the man she felt herself falling for and had been her only real friend in a long time, had all but disappeared. Vex'ahlia was crushed yet did not allow herself to wallow, adding Percival's disappearance to the list of events she must discover the truth of.

— Years later the woman known as Vex'ahlia is well known within Kaisou's underworld circles for her impeccable aim, her cunning, and her uncanny ability to get a job done. Yet despite all of her accomplishments over the years she is no closer to discovering the truth of what happened that fateful night, nor what happened to her only friend. Luckily that hasn't discouraged her in the slightest, she is exactly where she needs to be in order to discover the truth and it is only a matter of time before she does.

AU Personality Differences: She is a little more closed off than her canon counterpart, having been separated from her twin brother for so long. She tries to keep people at arm's length however she is not entirely successful at it.
